About the Journal

Focus and Scope

“Studi di estetica / aesthetic studies” hosts theoretical and historiographical debates on the critical currents that animate the contemporary aesthetic studies. Following a cultural vision that aims to transcend disciplinary boundaries towards a broad philosophical aesthetics, the journal offers a constantly updated view of current research in the international arena.

“Studi di estetica / aesthetic studies”, published every four months, has a dual theoretical and historical character, which is reflected in the thematic alternation of its issues. In addition, the second issue of each year is edited by the Sensibilia project, which devotes entirely monographic issues to topics related to perception, the phenomenology of experience, images and the body.

The peer-review process contributes to the development and expansion of a coherent and rigorous scientific network and offer a guarantee of the quality of the work of the authors and of the institutions that support them.

After the manuscript has been received, Editors and the Board of Directors read the paper and evaluates the submission; they will make an initial decision as to whether the manuscript is likely to be a candidate for review.

The peer review process is double-blind: reviewers and authors are kept anonymous. After the reviewers have submitted their evaluations, the editor and editorial team will make a final decision on the manuscript.
Editors communicate the decision to the authors (accept, invitation to revise, reject). For papers invited to be revised, editor will outline what would be needed for revisions.

Journal History

“Studi di estetica” was founded in 1973 by Luciano Anceschi with the subtitle: “Bollettino annuale della Sezione di Estetica dell'Istituto di Filosofia dell'Università di Bologna”. The Journal was headed by the four courses of Aesthetics (sections of Philosophy, Dams, Education Sciences and Foreign Languages), and those of History of Criticism, Poetics and Rhetoric, Psychology of Art.
The academic and scientific approach of "Studi di estetica" has been such as to favor active confrontation with other schools of thought over the years. In fact, Italian and foreign scholars, critics, writers, and men of culture still collaborate with the Journal.
From the foundation, in 1973, until the end of 2013, 66 numbers were released, divided into three series, the third of which (1993-2013) was directed by Fernando Bollino, who promoted the entrance into the Scientific Committee of foreign and Italian scholars of other universities.
Since 2014 the Journal is also online, and in this new series is published by Mimesis Edizioni.
